Snoring & Sleep Apnea

Snoring & Sleep Apnea

Is snoring keeping you awake?  Do you wake up still feeling tired even after a full complement of sleeping hours? Do you suffer from sleep apnea?

If snoring is keeping you awake, or you suffer from sleep apnea and feel tired in the morning even after a full complement of sleeping hours, treatments are available. Working in conjunction with your physician, a dental device (Ortho Apnea) can be worn at night to help reduce snoring and various versions of this device can also help with sleep apnea to reduce airway blockage and allow oxygen to flow.

During sleep, the soft tissues in the mouth and throat relax. This can constrict the air passages and cause the soft tissues of the palate and uvula to vibrate.  This creates the traditional snoring sound.

A custom-made mouth device made of upper and lower plastic trays connected by a special connector (Ortho Apnea) is used to position the lower jaw forward, thus helping to open the airway and reduce snoring.

Sleep Apnea (OSA-Obstructive Sleep Apnea) occurs when there is a period of asphyxiation (lack of oxygen flow) during sleeping caused by airway blockage. This can cause serious health concerns.

Various custom-made mouth devices can be made (including the Ortho Apnea) to help with this condition.

A sleep specialist together with your physician can be involved in the treatment of this condition.
