Implants
Implants
With available technology we can replace your missing teeth with implants or implant-supported prostheses to improve esthetics and function etc.
Implants may replace individual teeth or support prostheses such as dentures or bridges for greater stability. When a tooth is removed, an implant is placed in the hard tissue of the jaw (bone) to replace the root of a tooth. After a period of healing whereby the implant integrates with the bone, the implant can be restored with a tooth replacement (abutment) which is screwed into the implant and a crown placed over top.
If several teeth are missing, each tooth can be replaced individually with implants or an implant-supported prosthesis (bridge, denture) can be placed. The bridge being fixed in place and the denture being removable.
The advantage of implants over other types of tooth replacement are that they do not involve other teeth and they are comfortable (fixed in place).
A dental assessment is needed to determine if a patient is a good candidate for dental implants.
