Bruxism (Grinding) & TMJ Pain

Bruxism (Grinding) & TMJ Pain

Bruxism (teeth grinding) often occurs at nighttime. Teeth Clenching often occurs during the day/night.

They may be caused due to jaw position, tight TMJ (temporomandibular joint) muscles due to stress, improperly aligned teeth, or in young children due to the developing dentition.

Because the forces exerted on the teeth, due to clenching or grinding, can be quite significant this may result in worn teeth, broken teeth/fillings, tooth pain, jaw and muscle pain, headaches, earaches, gum recession and bone loss.

This can also cause damage to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Treatment may involve stress reduction and muscle therapies, adjusting the bite (how the teeth touch) and wearing a custom-made nightguard.
